SUBMISSION
Please specify which area included in the general scope of AAEM is addressed in your paper. Explain in a few sentences.
Manuscripts submitted (original articles, brief communications and case reports) will be subject to peer review by the members of the Editorial Board or by qualified outside reviewers. Only papers of high scientific quality will be accepted for publication. Manuscripts are accepted for review only when they report unpublished work that is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Therefore, the cover letter must include the following statement: "Neither this manuscript nor one with substantially similar content under my/our authorship has been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. In case of selecting the submitted material for publication, the undersigned author(s) transmit the copyright to the Publishers of the journal Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine." This statement must be signed by all authors.
In the case that some data presented in the submitted work have been previously presented elsewhere the above sentence must read as follows:
"Neither this manuscript nor one with substantially similar content under my/our authorship has been published or submitted for publication elsewhere, except as described in the attachment. In case of selecting the submitted material for publication, the undersigned author(s) transmit the copyright of unpublished material to the Publishers of the journal Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine."
This statement must be signed by all authors. In this specific case, the complete list of applicable publications and their copies must be attached, as well as written consent of copyright owner(s) to re-publish the previously published material in the AAEM.
Also, if the submitted paper contains figures or tables from other sources, written permission of the copyright owner for their reproduction in AAEM must be included.
Papers accepted for publication in the AAEM become the copyright of the journal and may not be published again, without the written consent of the Publisher. Authors are entirely responsible for all statements and omissions in the published manuscripts.
There are no page charges for papers submitted to the AAEM. Author(s) will receive 25 reprints of the published paper free of charge. Additional reprints may be ordered by completing the form sent with proofs.
FORMAT OF MANUSCRIPTS
All manuscripts must be written in English, typewritten (letter-quality printed), double-spaced, on one side of good quality A4 (210 ´ 297 mm), or 8.5 ´ 11 inch paper, with at least 3 cm (1.2 inch) margins. Submit the original and two copies (including tables and figures), together with a CD with the text of the paper, preferably as a file in MS-Word™ or WordPerfect™ format, or as ASCII text file. MS-Word™ for Macintosh™ files are acceptable only if submitted on an IBM™-formatted disk. Label the disk with the first author's name and title of the manuscript; specify the name and version of word-processor used. Please ensure that the text in file is identical with that on printout. Although either British or American usage is permitted, the usage in each paper must be consistent. The Editors reserve the right to adjust style of the text and/or graphs to certain standards of uniformity.
ORGANISATION AND FORMAT OF ORIGINAL ARTICLES
The text of the manuscript should not exceed 16 double-spaced pages (excluding title page, abstract, references, tables and figures). Text should be arranged in the following order: Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (one Results and Discussion section can be accepted in individual cases), Conclusions, Acknowledgements, and References. Number all pages in sequence, beginning with the Title Page.
The Title Page of the original must contain the complete title of the manuscript, names (with full first names) and affiliations of all authors, name, address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail box address of the author responsible for correspondence, a proposed running title of not more than 40 characters, and 5-10 key words or phrases that will adequately index the subject matter of the article. Concerning the keywords, the authors are encouraged to use terms included in the thesaurus of medical keywords proposed by National Library of Medicine (MeSH).
As the policy of the Editors is that neither the names and institutions of the authors are known to the reviewers nor the authors know the reviewers, any information concerning the author(s) and his(their) institution must be removed from the Title Pages of the 2 copies. Therefore, the Title Page of the 2 copies must contain the complete title of the manuscript, proposed running title, and 5-10 key words or phrases identical to those in the original. Also, the Acknowledgements which may identify the author(s) or institution should be removed from these copies.
The second page of the manuscript should contain the Abstract summarising the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the work in less than 200 words.
ORGANISATION AND FORMAT OF BRIEF COMMUNICATIONS
The text of the manuscript should not exceed 4 double-spaced pages (excluding title page, abstract and figures). Abstract must not exceed 40 words and the paper may include no more than 2 figures. Subdivision of the text into Title Page (arranged as described above for Original Articles), Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion and References (limited to a necessary minimum) is recommended.
ORGANISATION AND FORMAT OF CASE REPORTS
The text of the manuscript should not exceed 6 double-spaced pages (excluding title page, abstract and figures). The abstract must not exceed 40 words and paper may include no more than 3 figures. Subdivision of the text into Title Page (arranged as described above for Original Articles), Abstract, Introduction, Case Description, Discussion and References is recommended.
REFERENCES
References should be in alphabetical order, including names of all authors, and numbered consecutively. In the text, references should be cited by numerals in square brackets. Follow the styles shown in examples below:
Journal Articles (use Medline abbreviations):
1. Alavanja MCR, Malker H, Hayes RB: Occupational cancer risk associated with the storage and bulk handling of agricultural foodstuff. J Toxicol Environ Health 1987, 22, 247-254.
Books:
2. Mitchell J, Rook A: Botanical Dermatology. Plants and Plant Products Injurious to the Skin. Greengrass Ltd, Vancouver 1979.
Book Chapters:
3. Sullivan JB Jr, Gonzales M, Krieger GR, Runge CF: Health-related hazards of agriculture. In: Sullivan JB Jr, Krieger GR (Eds): Hazardous Materials Toxicology. Clinical Principles of Environmental Health, 642-666. Williams and Wilkins, Baltimore 1992.
Conference Proceedings:
4. Vuk-Pavlovic Z, Rohrbach MS: The effect of tannin on hydrogen peroxide production by neutrophils and alveolar macrophages. In: Jacobs RR, Wakelyn PJ (Eds): Cotton Dust. Proceedings of the Thirteenth Cotton Dust Research Conference, Beltwide Cotton Research Conferences, Nashville, 5-6 January 1989, 85-88. National Cotton Council, Memphis 1986.
TABLES
Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and their placement indicated in the text in the left hand margin. Type each table double-spaced on a separate sheet. A clear, descriptive title should be typed at the top of the table and footnotes (indicated by superscript lowercase letters - a, b, c - etc.) should be typed at the bottom of the table. Avoid using vertical rules in tables.
FIGURES
Only very sharp, high-contrast, glossy black and white photographs will be accepted. Colour will be printed only at the author's expense. Line drawings (graphs, charts, etc.) must be submitted as good quality printouts with the original data attached on a separate sheet. Please note that one set of data sheets containing only numerical data which were used to compose the graphs should be sent. Computer-generated figures should also be submitted on CD in the format of graph files. Photographs for half-tone reproduction should be of the highest quality. Electron and light micrographs must have a scale marker. All lettering must meet professional standards and must be legible after reduction in size by half.
Figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and their placement indicated in the text in the left hand margin. Identify each figure on the back with soft pencil, giving abbreviated title of manuscript, figure number and an arrow indicating "top". Legends providing brief descriptions of figures and definitions of abbreviations used should be typed double-spaced on separate sheet(s) and appended as a part of the text.
UNITS
Metric (SI) units should be used. Concentrations of bacterial endotoxin in the air, dust and other media may be expressed either in weight units (WU) equivalent to a particular standard endotoxin or in endotoxin units (EU), however, in each case a formula for conversion WU into EU or EU into WU must be given together with an appropriate reference.
PROOFS
Authors will receive page proofs for correction. They must be mailed back to the Editor within 3 days.
RECOMMENDATION
"Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to medical journals" (the Vancouver style) should be followed in details not specifically covered above.
THE JOURNAL AND SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES
Conference proceedings may be printed as special issues of the journal AAEM or as supplements. The conference topics must be in accordance with the journal's areas of interest. The good tradition of the journal is that conference organisers become or nominate the Guest Editor(s) of the special issue. For more information on this item please contact the Editors at the above address.
